Sgt. (Retired) Van Lucas Henderson, age 90 of Gallion, Alabama (Old Springhill Community) entered into eternal rest February 20, 2012 at the Veterans Adminstration Medical Center, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Funeral Services were held Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at Gilfield Baptist Church, Gallion, Alabama. Rev. M. C. Jones, Pastor. Rev. Lacornia Harris will officiate. Interment followed with Full Military honors in the the Gilfield Community Cemetery, Gallion, Alabama. Larkin and Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis, Alabama entrusted with arrangements. "The Trusted Name in Funeral Service". Sgt. Van L. Henderson was born to the parentage of the late Sam & Susie Henderson. After having fought many great battles, victory was won!. He confessed Christ at an early age with the Methodist Church of Old Springhill and later united with the Gilfield Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by three brothers, John T. Henderson, Willie Henderson, Luther Henderson and one sister Geneva Daniels. Sgt. Van L. Henderson served his country Honorably over 21 years. His ervice in Word Ward II earned him the WWII Victory Medal and bravely fought in the Korean War, earning the Korean Serice Medal with 6 Bronze Service Stars and the United States Medal for the service in Defense of the Principles of the Charter of The United Nations. He was a "Real American Hero>" He leaves to mourn, three devoted nieces: Waanda Daniels Garner of Gallion, Alabama, Acquinetta Henderson of Demopolis, Alabama and Sandra Wright-Daniels of Jefferson, Alabama. Two devoted nephews: Sammie E. Bryant of Gallion, Alabama and John Henderson of Chicago, Illinois. He also leaves to mourn, Darren "Juicy" Besteder (like a son) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. A very special friend, Ms. Willie M. Ayers of Gallion, Alabama. Very devoted caretakers, Josephine "Jo-Jo" Tucker and Evon Tate of Gallion, Alabama. A host of nieces, nephews, Cousins, other relatives and dear friends. He always managed a smile and believed in God. He will be greatly missed!
