Mrs. Mamie Williams, age 84 of Demopolis, Alabama entered into eternal rest preacefully at her residence on May 23, 2009. Funeral Services for Sis. Mamie Williams will be held Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 12:00 noon at the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Highway 69, Gallion, Alabama. The remains will repose at the church on Saturday beginning at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Donald J. White will officiate. Public viewing will be held Friday from 1-6 p.m. at the funeral home. She was born to the parentage of the late Carrie Key and Isreal Adams. She confessed faith in Christ at an early age and joined the Oak Grove Baptist Church. She was united in holy matrimony to Mr. John A. Williams,Sr. To this union eight (8) children were born. Two children, James Williams and John Williams, Jr. preceded her in death along with her parents, husband and siblings, Leroy Adams, Rose Williams, Richard Ruffin, Sarah Horton, Will Adams and James Adams, and Dorothy Conners. Mamie was a lifetime member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church. She served faithfully as Mother of the Church, Missionary Society President, Deaconess, Leader of the Crusaders and many capacities. She was known to many as "Miss Mamie" throughout her neighborhood, a stranger to no one. She would lend a helping hand whenever one was needed. Her passion was baking cakes and pies, canning, and cooking for her children and grandchildren. She was employed for many years at Bryan Whitfield Hospital and Griffin Packing Plant of Demopolis, Alabama where she retired in 1990. She was also a member of the Liberty Social and Savings Club and the Old Green Oak B.M.S. Society. She leaves to cherish her memories two loving and devoted sons, George Williams and Robert (Sabrina) Williams of Detroit, MI; four loving & devoted daughters, Dorothy Jinnis of Detroit, MI., Barbara (Lenard) Tennant of Warren, MI., Mary (Daniel) Harris of Grand Parire, Texas and Johnnie W. (Dr. Christopher) Scott of Demopolis, AL; two siblings, Matilda Morgan Roosevelt (Ann J.) Adams of Buffalo, N.Y; twenty-six (26) grandchildren, three of whom she assisted in rearing, Brenda Jinnis, Annie Jinnis and Kenneth Wiliams; fourteen (14) great grands and one great, great grandchildren; one son-in-law, Cleveland Jinnis (wife-Dorothy)daughters- in law, Nancy Williams (deceased son-John Jr.) and Lula Williams (deceased son-James), daughter-in-law, Willie Lee (husband-George) neighbors, Virginia Williams-Goodlett, Cassandra Williams, Roosevelt Motley and Caroline Richardson, all of Demopolis, Alabama. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and numerous friends.
