Mrs. Emma Quinney Ross, age 79 of Birmingham, Alabama, former native of Gallion, Alabama passed January 18, 2008 at St. Vincent's Medical Center, Birmingham, Alabama. Funeral Services were held Saturday, January 25, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the Hopewell Baptist Church, Linden, Alabama. Rev. Joseph Harper is the pastor. Rev. Mitchell Ross Congress officiated. Interment followed in McKinley Memorial Gardens, Linden, Alabama. Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis, Alabama. She was born to the parentage of the late Nelson Quinney, Sr. and the late Annie Gaines Quinney. She confessed Christ and united with the Hopewell Baptist Church, Linden, Alabama. Upon relocating to Birmingham, Alabama, she joined the New Community Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R.E. Coplin where she remained until her health failed. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Lula Q. Pouge, Nelson Quinney, Jr. and Roy Quinney. She leaves to cherish her precious memories two loving daughters, Martha Gaines Scruggs of Chicago, IL and Annie M. Sutherland of Brooklyn, NY; two very devoted sons, Howard Ross Jr. and wife, Judith of Pleasant Grove, AL and Charles Ross of Birmingham, AL; seven grandchildren that she cherished, Raynard (Astrid) Gaines of Frankfurt, Germany, Damon Scruggs of Chicago, IL, Tarik Sutherland and Barika Phillips of Brooklyn, NY, Charles Munford of Birmingham, AL, Howard Ross III and Brian Ross of Pleasant Grove, AL; one great grandson, Devin Gaines of Chicago, IL; three sisters, Viola Quinney & Eliza Quinney of Birmingham, AL and Mymie Norton of Tulsa, OK; two brothers, Charlie Quinney, Sr. of Forkland, AL and Mack Quinney of Bronx, NY; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and numerous friends who will missed and cherish her memories dearly.
