Deacon Ellis Levy, Sr.,age 94 of 5869 Sumter 23, Livingston, Alabama passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 24, 2007 at his residence in Coatopa, Alabama. Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 28, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Coatopa, Alabama. Rev. Willie Ivory will officiate. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery. The remains will repose at the church on Friday beginning at 1:00 p.m. Public viewing will be held Thursday from 1-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis, Alabama entrusted with arrangments. Deacon Ellis Levy Sr. was born May 7, 1913 in Sumter County, Alabama to the parentage of the late Joe Levy and Jennifer Smith. He was dedicated, loyal and faithful Christian and a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church serving as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He was also a Mason. He was married to Susie Dykes Levy who preceded him to death. To this union, seven children were born. One daughter, Gennie M. Richmond, three sister-in-law, Gertrude Gaines, Elnora Williams and Minnie Ash all preceded him in death. Deacon Ellis Levy, Sr. entered into eternal rest December 14, 2007 at his residence in Coatopa, Alabama. Survivors include six loving and devoted children, Julius Levy of Compton, CA, Vera Vaughns of Freeport Long Island, NY, Ellis Levy, Jr. of Coatopa, AL, Frank Levy of Gary, IN, Jerone (Jacqueline) Levy of Besssemer, Alabama and Vernia (Nick) Beard of Atlanta,GA; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Booker Dykes of Coaatopa, AL; three sisters-in-law, Louise Mitchell, Mary Lou Hill and Mattie Brown. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
