Deacon Gidd Russell, Jr. age 74 of Gallion, Alabama passed March 11, 2008 as the result of injuries sustained in a automobile accident at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital, Demopolis, Alabama. Funeral Services were held Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Paul Baptist Church, Old Springhill Road, Demopolis, Alabama. Rev. Charlie W. Moore officiated. Interment with military honors followed at Limestone Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis, Alabama entrusted with arrangements. Gidd was the third of eight children born to the parentage of the late Gidd Sr. and Kathleen Moody Russell of Gallion, Alabama. He confessed Christ at an early age and became a member of the St. Paul Baptist Church under the pastorage of the late Rev. C. C. Ellis. After graduating from U.S. Jones High School in 1952, Gidd moved to Cleveland, Ohio. He was drafted in the U.S. Army and served two years and received an honorably discharge. He returned to Cleveland and later moved to Buffalo, New York and worked for Bethlehem Steel Corporation. While in Buffalo, He united in Holy Matrimony to his sweetheart Vicey Banks. He returned home in 1974 and reunited with St. Paul Baptist Church and open his own clothing store (Russell's New Image) which he operated for more than 20 years. He also worked as night manager for Best Western Hotel. Gidd was actively involved in numerous civic and community affairs. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vicey Banks Russell, his parents, and his brother, Festus Russell. He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Jonathan Robinson of Forkland, AL; his sisters, Johnnie (Lovell) Rowser of East Norwalk, CT and Sarah (Dennis) Zuvlon of Centereach, N.Y; brothers, Eddie L. Russell and Monroe (Sally) Russell of Rosedale, NY and G.T. (Dot) Russell of Demopolis, AL; one aunt, Helen Jackson of Birmingham, AL; one uncle, G.T. Moody of Cleveland, OH; Dorris Robinson, five nieces, eight nephews, a devoted cousin, Tommie R. YOung, a host of great niece, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
