Mr. Anthony James Mitchell, age 55 of California, formerly of Sweetwater, Alabama passed February 15, 2008 in Westminister, California. Funeral Services were held Saturday, February 23, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the Independent Baptist Church, Sweetwater, Alabama. Rev. S. L. Hives officiated. Interment followed in Jackson Cemetery, Sweetwater, Alabama. Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis, Alabama entrusted with arrangements. He was born to the union of Council and Clementine Mitchell, who both preceded him in death. He was the second of nine children. One brother, Frederick Mitchell, Sr. preceded him in death in 1988. Anthony accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Independent Baptist Church of Sweetwater, Alabama. He attended Coxheath Jr. High in Sweetwater and later moved to Kalamazoo Central High School. He went to receive his State License for Certficiation as a Licensed Professional Care Worker for the State of Michigan. He worked for Heartland Home Healthcare Agency for over 13 years. He took pride in his work and was respeced for his dedication to his parents. He also received his license for Commercial and Residental Internal and External Painting. He met and married Patricia Latta Mitchell in September 1999. They later divorced, but continued to have a treasured friendship that lasted to the day of his passing. He leaves to cherish his loving memory, two children, Anthony Mitchell, Jr. & Angela Mitchell of Kalamazoo, MI; two brothers, Leroy Mitchell, Sr. of Detroit, MI and Gregory (Marion) Mitchell of Sweetwater, AL: one step-brother, Edward Glover of Moss Point, MS; five sisters, Pauline (Adam) Duncan of LOuisville, KY, Jacqueline Wiggins and Jennifer (Alton) Murphy of Lakewood, CA, Kathy Mitchell-Thomas of Houston, TX and Lisa Mitchell of Huntingdon Beach, CA; four grandchildren; brothers-in-spirit, whom he loved dearly, Melvin Tensley and Albert Williams; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
