Mr. Andrew James Carter, Jr., age 95 of Linden, Alabama passed November 6, 2010 at D.C.H. Regional Medical Center, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Funeral Services were held Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Eastern Star Baptist Church, Demopolis, Alabama. Rev. Terry Gosa officiated. Interment followed in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Demopolis, Alabama. Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis, Alabama entrusted with arrangements. As a young man, Andrew moved to Detroit, Michigan with a uncle and joined the Army where he was honorably discharged from the Army around 1946. After he moved to Chicago, Illinois and worked for Wilson Packing Company. After the company closure, he was able to become employed at the United States Postal Service where he was employed for over thirty years. He worked past age 70 and was a devoted postman at the Lakeview division of the post office. He met, courted and then married the love of his life Roberta Jean Houston on June 20, 1957. To their union no children were born, but they cherish Dr. Winston Johnson as a devoted stepson and Margaret Heywood as a dadughter. Dr. Johnson has givven so much time and been so devoting to Andrew adn Roberta. Andrew love for Winston was unaltering. After retirement, they decided to relocate to Linden, Alabama and became a member of the Eastern Star Baptist Church. He was a dedicated Mason and devoted a lot of time to history of African Americans. He also has a large collection of records and pictures. He leaves to cherish his loving wife, Roberta J. Carter of Linden, AL; a devoted adopted son, Dr. winston (Joyce) Johnson and their children, LaTonya, Monique and families, Mararet Heywood; sisters-in-law, Jacqueline Outlaw and family, Sandra Daniels and family; devoted cousins, Pearl Norman, Virginia Norman, Joe Norman, Thomas (Carrie) Gilbert and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
